Relief Tile Series

Working in a series:

Artists work in a series in order to develop their ideas or concepts more fully than they could in one single piece. Motivations to work in a series include: to
investigate and explore a subject, story, or technique, when there is an emotional response, to develop an artistic identity, as a business move, and many more.

TRIPTYCH: A painting or carving that has three side-by-side parts, panels, or canvases.A triptych can also be, more loosely, something composed or presented in three parts or sections.

QUADRIPTYCH: A painting or carving that has four side-by-side parts, panels, or canvases.

POLYPTYCH:
A painting or carving that has multiple (more than three) side-by-side parts, panels, or canvases.

These are all examples of relief tile series that are designed to be displayed together.

Change or Transition in Artwork:

Change demonstrated in art can come in many forms:

Transition

TRANSITION: Process of changing from one state or form to another (smooth to rough surface).

Transformation

Evolution

Progression

Metamorphosis

METAMORPHOSIS: A transformation, as by magic. A change in appearance, character, condition, or function.

Sculpture Processes:

MODELING: Creating forms with pliable materials such as clay by using the hands and tools.

CASTING
: Creating forms by pouring liquid material into a mold and allowing it to harden.

MOLDMAKING
: Creating a hollow negative form around an existing positive form, for the purpose of casting.

ADDITIVE SCULPTURE
: 3-D work made by putting pieces of material together to build up a form.

SUBTRACTIVE SCULPTURE: 3-D work made by removing excess material from a larger piece of material.
